Mortgages and Reverse Mortgages

My girlfriend’s parents recently put a reverse mortgage on their home. I had no clue what reverse mortgages were when they told us about it, so I did a little reading online. From what I can tell, a reverse mortgage is basically a bank or company paying you so much money every month for your home, then if you die or something happens to you, your family can either buy the house back from the bank or company or the bank or company own the home. I don’t really know much about reverse mortgages or first time buyer mortgages. I really need to read up on mortgages in general. I’m going to need to add a mortgage to my home soon so that I can pay for various home improvement projects.
